Junior League Baseball

ABOUT

Junior League Baseball is for players who are aged between 12 - 14 by the 31st August each year This division allows for more advanced play, while still maintaining a focus on fun, player development, equal participation and sportsmanship. Players are still encouraged to play in every position and the following field dimensions and rule adaptations apply.

  • The game is played on an 80ft diamond (base paths are 10ft longer than those of Little League and 10ft less than Senior League.
  • The pitching distance 54ft (4ft more than Little League and 6ft less than Senior League).
  • There are age dependent restrictions on the number of pitches that can be thrown by any player.
  • There are no catching restrictions.
  • Every player listed on the team roster shall be included in the batting line-up for the full duration of the game.
  • An on-deck batter is permitted.
  • Base runners are permitted to lead off bases and may attempt to steal at any time.
  • There still exists minimum participation requirements for all players.
GAMES
Junior League games are usually played at 3:30pm on Saturday afternoons and are either 'Home' games, played at Forster Park in Belmont or 'away' games depending on fixtures. VPBBC usually play in a Southern League, often containing teams from clubs such as South Perth, Melville, Gosnells and Willetton.

FURTHER PATHWAYS
JUNIOR LEAGUE CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS TEAM
Depending on numbers of players and interest levels, players are invited to try out for the VPBBC Junior League Club Championship team (formally known as the JL Allstars). This is a slightly elevated level of competition and is played against other competing clubs with the following parametres.
  • Usually consists of the top 12 to 14 age eligible JL players.
  • Although the format and timing of games may change, they have in previous seasons been played in a two game format every second Saturday morning.
  • There is an additional cost to play Junior League Club Championships.
CENTRAL FIREBIRDS CHARTER TEAM
  • Usually consists of the top 12 to 14 age eligible JL players from the Junior League Teams form within VPBBC, South Perth and Willetton Baseball Clubs.
  • There will be a series of scheduled tryouts for team selection and the team will compete at the Junior League State Championships (previously held over the May long weekend) at a local venue to be announced prior to the Championship.
  • Depending on performance there exists the possibility to participate in the Junior League National Championships and beyond that to travel to Williamsport, Pennsylvania for the International Championships.
  • There are additional costs to participate.

FEES
Junior League fees for the 2025-2026 baseball season are $225 and can be paid by direct deposit, cash or eftpos. Payment plans to break down the cost of fees into more manageable payments are possible. Please contact either the Registrar or Treasurer for further information and to organise payments.

Fee Assistance - Apply for KidSport

KidSport enables eligible Western Australian children aged 5 to 18 years to participate in community sport by offering them financial assistance of up to $300 per calendar year towards club fees.

To be eligible for KidSport applicants must be​:

  1. Aged 5 to 18 years old

  2. A resident of Western Australia

  3. Listed on a valid Health Care Card or Pensioner Concession Card with a corresponding customer reference number (CRN)
